Why choose death?

Emmaus students tour a local Roman Catholic Cathedral in search of an interesting piece of history: the remains of a child martyr, victim of the Diocletian Persecution.
What was it that motivated thousands of believers, victims of the waves of persecution launched by the Roman Empire, to choose death rather than deny their allegiance to Christ?
What would motivate you?
Christ said, "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple" (Luke 14:26).
